Trad magic with Kíla and The Shy Talks

The seven members of Kíla come from different musical backgrounds and share a passion to create great music with an ability to absorb influences from across the globe. With its roots in traditional Irish, their music features a strong percussive-like singing and gorgeous melodies driven by a serious rhythmical undercurrent. Kíla have created their own distinctive style of world music, which has won over audiences around the world through their eight recordings to date and their spectacular live performances. Kíla's latest album Gamblers Ballet has been well received and reached the Top 30 in Ireland. Following on from a summer of brilliant and colourful performances at the Electric Picnic and Cois Fharraige festivals, Kíla will play a number of Irish dates this autumn including The Stables, Mullingar this Saturday.

Renowned for their sense of theatrics and exuberant stage dressing, Kíla will perform in venues around the country as well as festivals in France, Italy, and Spain in the run up to Christmas.

Kíla were honoured to be invited to perform live at the Beauvais International Film Festival, Paris in October. The film festival screened the Kíla concert film, Once Upon A time, on its opening night, as part of an extensive programme which is focusing on Irish film this year.

The film, which has been released on DVD in Ireland, has been described as “An Irish 'Stop Making Sense'” by Hot Press editor Niall Stokes and has spent 10 weeks in the Irish DVD charts. Not to be missed!

Supporting Kíla in Mullingar will be The Shy Talks, a trad band from the Mullingar area with core members Johnny Owens on fiddle, Johnny Fagan on banjo, and Ger Toal on cello.

Kíla and guests The Shy Talks play in The Stables, Mullingar this Saturday November 22, with music kicking off at 10pm. Tickets are €20 and are available from www.tickets.ie
