Maisy Daly – a Christmas show for all the family

Shortly after returning from their tour of Romania and Bulgaria, Tall Tales Theatre Company take to the Irish stage this December with another Irish Premiere, Maisy Daly’s Rainbow - a wizardly fusion of dance and theatre that offers something very different and special for all the family to enjoy during the Christmas season. They perform two shows at Roscommon Arts Centre on Saturday December 20 at 1pm and 4pm.

Set in Navan, Co Meath in 1940, Johnny and his Spanish Mammy live at the edge of town and Johnny regularly delivers eggs to the residents’ doors. On his round one morning, Johnny and his best friend Jen discover a magnificent rainbow in the doctor’s garden and vow to bring it home to Johnny’s colourless cottage. They must first, however, strike a deal with the local witch Maisy Daly, and so begins a fantastical journey of self-discovery.

Maisy Daly’s Rainbow has a stellar young cast and outstanding artistic team with clever set design by Kieran McNulty, including larger than life quirky costumes from the wartime period. The original music is composed by Elaine Agnew, composer in-residence with RTE Lyric FM. Elaine has also been engaged by Deirdre Kinahan in a musical development project in Co Meath, offering school workshops and professional development sessions for musicians in the county. Elaine also recently spent time at Roscommon Arts Centre facilitating workshops with infant teachers.

This play has a lot of heart and humour and gives a perfect sense of integrity to time and place while gently dealing with issues of childhood isolation. It is populated by colourful characters careering through a beautifully imaginative and original adventure. Maisy Daly promises some superb theatrical magic this winter, breaking the boundaries of children’s theatre in Ireland.
