Exhibition of new art work by Fintan O’Brien

Westmeath County Council is delighted to host a new exhibition by artist Fintan O’Brien.

Fintan O’Brien graduated from the Dun Laoghaire School of Art and Design and the National College of Art and Design with a BA honours degree in 1992. He has exhibited numerous national and international shows, at locations including the Royal Hibernian Academy Dublin, the People’s Gallery Cork, and the Institute for Arts and Urban Resources, and the Westhampton Art Gallery New York.

His primary concern in putting this collection together was to work from the basis of having an open mind and as few preconceived ideas as possible. He relied on colour, form, and line to dictate the compositions. Over the years he has gone on a journey of self discovery and a search for genuine works of art. The technique he has adopted is similar to that of a sculptor, stripping away, dismantling the canvases into layers of contrasting and complementary colour.

The exhibition by Fintan O’Brien is on display in the Atrium, County Buildings, Mullingar until April 14, and is open Monday to Friday 9am-5pm.
