Additional funding for footpaths and cycleways - McFadden

Additional funding has been granted to Westmeath and Longford County Councils for the development of footpaths and cycleways, Deputy Nicky McFadden has announced.

“€80,000 in additional funding has been allocated to Westmeath County Council for a footpath and cycleway from Cornamaddy School to the Department of Education in Athlone. €150,000 had initially been allocated for the project,” Deputy McFadden said.

“Additional savings from projects in Dublin mean that the Department of Transport can re-allocate further sums of funding under Smarter Travel plans to local authorities outside the GDA under the jobs initiative.”

“The priority two projects were submitted by the local authorities during the first round of applications. Local authorities that did not submit a second application have been asked to do so and it will be processed shortly,” Deputy McFadden said.
