Enrolment time for Athlone Educate Together

Efforts to establish an Educate Together school for Athlone will take a significant step forward this weekend when a pre-enrolment day takes place in the town.

This Saturday November 8, from 2pm in the Athlone Springs Hotel, interested parents are invited to come along to register their children or to learn more about Educate Together.

A hugely successful information day was held recently at Golden Island Shopping Centre, which proved just how much support there is for the project.

Regional development officer for Educate Together, Jarlath Munnelly, said that so far the reaction has been very positive. “We have had interest from lots of people, and I suppose at this stage we are really trying to explain the Educate Together National School concept to people. Basically, people are curious about Educate Together, but when you take the time to explain what our schools are about, they are very interested,” he said.

There are currently 56 Educate Together multi-denominational primary schools across Ireland, 12 of which were newly opened in September this year.

Educate Together National Schools are funded in exactly the same way as other primary schools. The main difference is that of ethos, with Educate Together schools being multi-denominational, co-educational, child-centred, and run in a democratic way, with significant parental input.
