Cycle4Haiti will be rallying through the Midlands this May Bank Holiday weekend

Cyclists gear up to raise 100,000 for Soul of Haiti Foundation

This May Bank Holiday weekend, cycling enthusiasts, and novices alike will rally in the streets for Cycle4Haiti 2011, a 225km cycle from Dublin’s GPO to Eyre Square, Galway which aims to raise €100,000 for the Soul of Haiti Foundation.

This year, a team of local cyclists from One Direct, based in Athlone, will lend their support by gearing up for the challenge.

The aim is to complete the two day cycle in a bid to double last year’s fundraising goal. The funds raised by Cycle4Haiti in 2010 went directly to support the development of Soul of Haiti Foundation projects including the provision of a brand new roof for an orphanage in Il a Vache.

Leg one will lead the convoy through the towns of Leixlip, Maynooth, Kilcock, Enfield, and Kinnegad, where they will break to refuel and continue on through Kilbeggan and Moate before settling in Athlone for the night. Passers-by are encouraged to show their support and step out to cheer on the team as they spin through each town.

Leg two on Sunday will see the team rally on through Ballinasloe, Aughrim, Kilreekil, Loughrea, Craughwell, Oranmore, and onwards to Galway where they will reach their final goal of Eyre Square.

A number of other well known businesses and familiar faces have shown their support by signing up to this year’s event including teams of novice cyclists from An Post, O2, Ernst and Young, Central Bank, Netwatch, and Jacobs Fruitfield.

Donations can be made directly to the cause by visiting www.cycle4haiti.com, by searching for Cycle4Haiti on www.mycharity.ie, or by making a donation at any of the fundraising events in the lead up to this year’s cycle.
