This college provides training and education in the arena of the helping professions, in particular the field of counselling and psychotherapy, creativity, expressive arts and spirituality.

The founders and directors of ICPPD Tom and Christine Moran are practising counsellors and psychotherapists and counselling supervisors, they are accredited members of IACP, NAPCP, and SAI. Their many years of working as therapists and supervisors in the field of counselling, as well as over 10 years experience as trainers of adult education programmes and personal development, and lecturers on degree programmes in counselling and psychotherapy provide them with in-depth knowledge and understanding of counselling and counselling training.

ICPPD are offering a one year foundation course in Athlone and Galway in September 2011. This 100 hour programme is for anyone wishing to find out more about counselling training and is a stepping stone to further training. Tom says, “This year gives participants the opportunity to be part of a group of adult learners, to experience a personal development module, counselling skills and an introduction to theories of counselling. Participants often describe this year as a life changing event. After the year, participants have an understanding and a sense of the commitment required from them if they wish to proceed to a professional qualification.”

ICPPD are offering a three year part-time diploma, a professional qualification, in Athlone and Galway commencing September 2011. Because of Tom and Christine’s experience and dedication to the profession of counselling and psychotherapy in Ireland, they have designed a programme that meets the criteria of IACP. The diploma being offered is similar to traditional mainstream counselling programmes offered in most training colleges, with the addition of training and modules in body, mind, spirit, and creativity, hence the word holistic which is used on their promotional literature.

This training programme is a balance of theory and practice and is delivered by lecturers who are experts in their fields, adhere to codes of ethics and appreciate the importance of life experiences and self awareness. The founders of the college are passionate about good practice, ethical behaviour, good and appropriate supervision, and see the personal and professional development and training of counsellors as paramount in upholding the reputation of their college in particular and the profession in general. According to Christine “There are two persons at the core of training, one is the counsellor and the other, the individual who is the main focus of all our work, the client. I hope that we never lose the focus of what we are about, which is counselling, that is being a compassionate, empathetic, self aware professional who has the ability and experience to create an environment, and a relationship with another person, so that person is valued, accepted, supported and empowered on their path towards wholeness, healthy choices and wellbeing.”
