South Pacific comes to Ballinasloe

ollowing on from the success of last year’s production of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, the cast and crew of Ballinasloe Musical Society are back next week with a tropical production.

Rehearsals are well under way for South Pacific, which will be directed by Paul Norton, local choreographer Fiona O’Leary, and musical director, Shane Farrell.

South Pacific is a 1949 musical with music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, and book by Hammerstein and Joshua Logan. On a South Pacific island during World War II, love blooms between a young nurse and a secretive Frenchman who's being courted for a dangerous military mission. Last produced in Ballinasloe in 1987, it is sure to be as much a success in 2011 as it was then, with cast including Louise Colohan, Seamus Feerick, Patrick Byrne, Barry Lally, Mike O’Reilly, and Fiona O’Leary.

South Pacific will show in the Town Hall Theatre, Ballinasloe from Monday February 28 to Saturday March 5, at 8pm nightly. The matinee will be held on Sunday February 27 at 6pm. Tickets for the show are €16. Concessionary tickets are available at €13 for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday March 1, 2, and 3. All tickets to the matinee are €10.

The Ballinasloe Musical Society are encouraging local businesses to decorate their shop windows South Pacific style to help promote the show and encourage local business. Without these local businesses the show would not go on.
