Smith’s SuperValu, Monksland, Athlone; Glasson Village Restaurant; and The Fish Market in Mullingar were all awarded membership to the prestigious BIM Seafood Circle for 2011 this week.

The coveted membership places were announced by Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Sean Connick, on Monday. SuperValu’s seafood counter in Monksland achieved membership status to the Seafood Circle, as did The Fish Market in Mullingar and Glasson Village Restaurant. The Seafood Circle was developed by BIM (Bord Iascaigh Mhara ) to support and champion retail and hospitality outlets that continually offer excellent quality seafood and service to their customers. The Seafood Circle plaque is presented to members on an annual basis and BIM encourages customers to seek outlets with this badge of honour in order to be assured of the best seafood available.

Congratulating the winners, Eileen Soraghan, BIM, said: “Customers can be assured that anyone who attains membership of the Seafood Circle will offer an exceptional seafood experience. The Seafood Circle plaque will only be found in retail premises that excel in their presentation, handling, storage, and knowledge of seafood and also in hospitality establishments throughout the country that offer seafood dining par excellence. This combined with a commitment to the best customer relations guarantees a visit to any Seafood Circle outlet will be well worthwhile.”

The Seafood Circle has grown since its inception in 2001, with almost 200 members announced in 2011. In addition to membership, there are a number of ‘best in category’ award winners. The complete list of 2011 BIM Seafood Circle members and award winners is available on www.seafoodcircle.ie or www.bim.ie
