Business event aims to help new start-ups

Ulster Bank’s national Start Up Live tour starts in Athlone on November 1

Ulster Bank will host a free evening event in the Olive Grove, Athlone, from 6pm to 8pm on Monday November 1 to help people who have recently set up or are considering starting up their own business. The Start Up Live events tour, run in association with smallbusinesscan.com, will allow the next generation of Midland businesses to come together to share their hopes, fears, concerns, and aspirations and trade expert advice on how to build and sustain a successful company.

On stage will be local business people who have been there and done it to share and discuss their experiences and mistakes with the audience of would-be and recently-established firms. The panel will be chaired by entrepreneur and founder of smallbusinesscan.com, Fionan Murray. Guest speakers on the panel will include Maeve O’Healy-Harte, managing director, MOHH; Albert Cooney, managing director, Cooney Manufacturing Ltd; Tony Clarke, managing director, Kendlebell; and Ronan Duffy, director, Royal Canal Financial Services.

Brendan McDermott, regional director, Ulster Bank, said, “We want to help people who have set up a company or might be thinking of starting a company to gain valuable insight from the experts on how to grow a business. This is an opportunity for likeminded businesspeople in the Midlands to network, forge relationships and really learn from each other.

“We’ve introduced a range of new initiatives to support start-up businesses, including waiving transaction fees for two years, a subscription to a number of our specialist banking services and we continue to celebrate business success with the Business Achievers Awards. Start Up Live is an important part of our offering. We’ve developed a helpful online platform in smallbusinesscan where start-ups, small business owners and entrepreneurs are sharing insights, ideas, knowledge, and experiences. Start-Up Live is an important and natural extension of that.”

The Start Up Live event tour will feature 14 dates across the island during October and November as part of the bank’s commitment to supporting new and emerging companies. The tour will start in Athlone on the 1st November and culminate in Cavan on the 30th November – taking in key towns and cities North and South along the way.
