Book signing and exhibition for John’s Bookshop

A couple of weeks ago The Complete Field Guide To Ireland’s Birds was launched on the RTE Radio 1 programme, Mooney Goes Wild.

The book written by Eric Dempsey and beautifully illustrated by Michael O’Clery, is significantly the first field guide devoted exclusively to birds in Ireland as all others have previously been for birds of the British Isles.

In this book the name of each bird is given in English, Irish, and Latin. It also features a very good guide for when and where each particular bird can be seen in Ireland. Detailed illustrations and guidelines make it easy to distinguish between male and females, and between immature and mature birds. The vocal sounds, diets, habitats, and status for each bird are also clearly outlined. The book comes in a handy portable pocket size and at only €20 is fantastic value if you wish to buy it for yourself or someone you care about. This important book will enable you to identify the birds you see in your garden or when you are out walking, hiking, hill walking, cycling, boating, or fishing anywhere in Ireland!

Senator Nicky McFadden will formally launch the book and exhibition tonight, Friday October 22 at 7pm in John’s Bookshop, Main Street, Athlone. Both Eric and Michael will be present in the shop to sign copies of their book plus many of Michael’s original illustrations from the book will also be on exhibition and for sale. Everyone is welcome to celebrate and enjoy a lovely evening to honour the contribution to appreciating our wild life by these two remarkable men and their wonderful new book.
