Spoilt for choice at The Bakery

With a restaurant, bakery, and soon-to-be-launched cookery school all under one roof, The Bakery on Dominick Street, Mullingar is a haven for food lovers, those with special dietary requirements, and those just wanting to get away from it all and enjoy delicious, home-cooked dining.

The Bakery specialises in an extensive variety of foods, with a particular focus on special dietary requirements. The majority of their food is gluten-free, with both gluten- and wheat-free breads available.

A full bakery range is available from The Bakery shop which includes specialised breads and cakes. The shop will soon be introducing a fine French line including French patisserie-style cakes.

All food in the restaurant is made from scratch, by a chef with vast experience in fine dining which he has brought into the lunch menu. There are eight different specials and different soups on the menu every day.

The catering side of the business is also flourishing, with catering available for corporate events, meetings, funerals, and parties. The Bakery will supply all the hot food, plates, glasses, etc, making them the one-stop shop for catering no matter what the occasion.

The Bakery also specialises in unique cakes for weddings, birthdays, and other celebrations, with a range of types on offer including novelty and photo cakes.

On Sunday November 14, The Bakery will hold a Christmas open day, when customers will be able to sample the Christmas ware in hot food, cakes, mince pies, Yule logs, and much more. Specialised food such as stuffed turkey off the bone, duck, and goose will also be available to order; however limited amounts are available so customers are advised to order early!

In addition to all this activity, plans to open a cookery school at The Bakery’s premises are under way. The school will specialise in cooking, baking, and cake decorating and sugarcraft. Starting in November, there will be evening classes in the following areas: introduction to Asian cooking; French classical cuisine; and alternative lifestyle cuisine, taking in healthy, vegan, vegetarian, and high energy cooking.

In the new year there will also be classes for students who wish to learn how to cook healthy food on a budget, and The Bakery plans to seek FETAC accreditation to develop further courses.

The Bakery currently employs 22 staff, and with the expansion of its wholesale section there are plans to employ a further six to seven people.

The Bakery is open from 8am to 6pm Monday to Saturday at 21-23 Dominick Street, Mullingar. The Bakery’s website will be up and running soon at www.bakeryshop.ie
