Substantial affordable housing scheme confirmed for Moate

Local Fianna Fáil Deputy, Robert Troy, has welcomed confirmation from the Housing Minister, Darragh O’Brien that Moate will soon benefit from an affordable housing scheme to incorporate some 22 housing units within the town.

Minister O’Brien has confirmed to Deputy Troy that the units will be built on a site at the Lake Road, Moate and that over €1.65 million has been allocated to complete the project.

“Affordable housing forms a key part of the Governments housing policy and I am delighted to receive confirmation of this allocation from Minister O’Brien which will allow this project to be completed without delay and available for families to purchase by early 2024. Moate is a vibrant town with a bright future and this scheme will certainly help families make the town their long term home and enjoy all that it has to offer,” Deputy Troy stated

The funding, which was announced by Minister O’Brien, will see all 22 homes completed by early 2024 and each property will then be sold at 22% below market value, with prices starting at €229,500.

“The impact which this scheme will have for Moate cannot be under-estimated, I hold a regular clinic in the town and I deal with many young couples and families who are trying to secure adequate mortgages and trying to provide a family home. I know this affordable housing solution will be welcomed in many of these cases and I look forward to working with applicants to ensure they are eligible for the affordable housing programme. As Moate gets its first glimpse at the draft town centre first plan in the past few days, this announcement is another clear sign of the Governments commitment to Moate, and towns of its ilk throughout the country,” Deputy Troy concluded.
