Women in business from the Midlands region, including Westmeath, recently gathered in The Sin Bin at Longford Rugby Club to attend the last tri-county women in business event for 2022.

After two years of Covid-19 restrictions and the return to in person business and events the theme for the evening was ‘Rest, Relax and Refocus!’

Speakers on the night included Carole Coleman, well known broadcaster and journalist who shared her career and life experiences while emphasising the importance of taking time out of our busy schedules for ourselves, while Fran Best of Lissawell Coaching facilitated an ice-breaker and networking session giving attendees the opportunity to circulate, network and share ideas face to face after two years of doing so on-screen.

The local business showcase featured a three businesses from the Midlands region.

Denise Buckley of Sugar Plum Sweetery represented LEO Westmeath, LEO Longford was represented by Jenevieve Butler of Midland Hearing Care and Richelle South of Leitrim Hill Creamery represented LEO Leitrim.

All three businesses told their story and how they came about setting up their own business – they all spoke freely about some of the challenges and opportunities they faced in building and sustaining their business.

Although sometimes operating in very different spheres of industry, common to all three was that they ‘followed their passion’. Another common theme to all was the need to plan and prioritise their schedule. What was truly refreshing was the honesty and openness in their conversation, the techniques they use to relax after a stressful day, the importance of the people around you and the self- belief necessary to keep motivated.

The event was very well attended with participants delighted to meet and socialise in person again. We look forward to 2023 and a new calendar of events to celebrate our local women in business with our first event on the March 8 2023 to celebrate International Women’s Day.
