Comedy fun continues to entertain audiences at Athlone Little Theatre as ‘The Two Loves of Gabriel Foley’ performs at intimate and atmospheric venue until Wednesday, November 30.

Penned by prolific Westmeath writer, Jimmy Keary, ‘The Two Loves of Gabriel Foley’ is laden with one-liners that will have the audience laughing along throughout, the perfect antidote to the dark November nights.

The rural comedy directed by Joe MacCarrick centres around the hapless Gabriel Foley, played by Ronan Flynn, a bachelor farmer, lives with his mother who is losing hope of him ever finding a wife. Oblivious to the romantic charms of the girl next door Chrissie (Sinéad Waterstone ), Gabriel fancies upmarket Hazel (Linda Butler ), a member of the local dramatic society. But has Gabriel bitten off more than he can chew? His mother Aggie (Anne Blackie ) who has some caustic lines and laughs throughout definitely thinks so!

When hilarious circumstances mean a rehearsal is held in Gabriel’s rural farmhouse home, the action shifts into full comic gear, with neighbour Liam (Ronan Walsh ) and Aggie’s sister Lucy (Chrissie Killian ) stirring the pot even further.

Adding even more spice to the mixture is the posh and flamboyant writer Morag Delamere (John McGlynn ) and Clive Snell (Jimmy O’Meara ), a self-important member of the Prince of Denmark Players, who, coincidentally also has his eye on Hazel!

Come and watch our hero navigate his way through all sorts of traps and misunderstandings in this heartwarming comedy where we all hope true love conquers all.

Directed by Joe MacCarrick, the production has an all-star cast including Ronan Flynn, Sinéad Waterstone, Anne Blackie, Chrissie Killian, Linda Butler, Ronan Walsh, Jimmy O’Meara and John McGlynn. They are ably assisted by a back stage crew of Joanna Grobosz, Sheila Plunkett, Natalia Burgues and Joanne Carroll.

‘The Two Loves of Gabriel Foley’ by Jimmy Keary runs until Wednesday, November 30 inclusive at 8pm nightly in Athlone Little Theatre, St Mary’s Place, Athlone.
