Award winning Midlands nature photographer to visit Athlone library

Award winning nature photographer Tina Claffey, from Offaly, celebrates the minutiae of our Midland habitats through her macro lens, her photographs capture what the naked eye cannot see and giving a unique perspective of the flora and fauna of raised bogs and wet woodlands.

“Bogs are magical places that defy any distinction between land and water. They are the last true wildernesses in Western Europe and are home to extraordinary plant and animal species that have adapted in this unique environment to survive,” Tina stated.

Tina Claffey has exhibited her work in the US, Africa and throughout Ireland and her photographs are included in the permanent collection at Áras an Uachtaráin, home of the President of Ireland. She presented her work at the UN Climate Conference COP 26 and her images are currently part of an Exhibition at Pearse Museum in Dublin, which explores our relationship with the natural world. In 2017 Tina Claffey published ‘Tapestry of Light – Ireland’s bogs and wetlands as never seen before’ and now she has a new book titled: ‘Portal – Otherworldly Wonders of Ireland’s Bogs, Wetlands and Eskers’.

The Aidan Heavy Library Athlone is hosting Tina Claffey, who will give illustrated talks about her work and sign copies of her book ‘Portal’, on the October 25, at 6.30pm.

There will be a raffle for a signed copy of Tina’s Book this event, at whichc opies of ‘Portal’ will also be available for purchase.
