Southern Gaels hosted the inaugural Corcoran Cup Under 9 camogie tournament recently.

Southern Gaels and Drumraney played out an exciting game full of skill and endeavour. The girls had a very enjoyable evening with Drumraney coming out on top in an exciting finish. Following the game Vera Corcoran, who has served the club for many years, presented the Corcoran Cup to Drumraney joint captains, Eliza Mallon and Eva Hickey.

Southern Gaels girls playing on the night were Leah Hartnett, Aoibhin O’Keeffe, Roisin O’Keeffe, Eliza Crosbie, Sadhbh O’Connell, Aisling Fallon, Rose Walsh, Olivia Cleary, Lucy Harney, Clodagh Lee, Aoibheann O’Neill, Andrea Fallon, Erin Deeney, Siomha Mitchell, Siomha Kelly, Fiadh O’Connell, Eve Kearns, Tessa Hassett, Sadhbh Moran, Aishling O’Connor, Aoibhin Byrne and Eala Tiernan.

It was the first organised camogie tournament played in Athlone for over seventy years. Southern Gaels are launching a camogie club and entering teams in Westmeath competitions at both juvenile and adult levels next year to coincide with the 50th anniversary of their founding. Frank Young Tournament

Southern Geals won this annual Under 11 tournament with an exciting 2-3 to 1-3 win over local rivals Fr Daltons. Following the game, Senan Kelly the Southern Gaels captain, received the Frank Young Cup from Emily Young.

Fixtures

The junior side are still in contention for championship honours and training is continuing along with the U19 side who are in the semi-final of Division Two.

The U15s are in the Division Two Shield semi-final with fixtures for these remaining games to be issued shortly.

Underdogs

Congratulations to Seamus Hoctor on his appearance on the popular GAA TV programme ‘Underdogs’. Seamus is a prominent player with the Intermediate side for the last five years and is performing well on the Underdogs side that will play against Waterford in their final match of the programme.
