Southern Gaels played Castletown Geoghegan in Round 3 of the Under 13 League Phase Two in Páirc Chiaráin last week.

Playing an admirable brand of hurling, the Gaels got off to a positive start with a well taken goal by Nathan Quigley. Castletown settled into the game and showed great skill scoring two excellent goals and points from play and frees.

The Gaels fought back with Ódhran Mitchell scoring an excellent goal before half time. However, Castletown led by 2-6 to 2-0 at the break.

Both teams made changes at half time and the second half produced the same high standard of hurling as the first. Thomas Herron, Adam O’Brien and Ódhran Mitchell kept the Gaels in touch with points from play but Castletown pulled away in last 10 minutes with two late goals.

Camogie Interest

Southern Gaels are currently seeking to develop a number of girls only teams at every level with a view to entering camogie teams at all levels in competition for 2023.

Depending on the response, there will be teams entered where there are sufficient numbers interested in playing to warrant a team.

The 50th anniversary of the foundation of the club takes place next year and there is growing interest in camogie in the town. The club wishes to build on this and anyone interested in camogie should visit www.southerngaels.ie follow the link, submit your details and we will be in touch.

You can also contact any club official for information.
