A well supported public walk took place in Athlone on Sunday afternoon last, the aim of which was to create awareness of the continuous support service provided by the local branch of the Samaritans.

Departing from the Obelisk monument in Burgess Park, participants walked through the centre of Athlone, concluding their short journey at the Shamrock Lodge Hotel.

The aim of the walk was to maintain awareness of the service provided by the Athlone and Midland Samaritan branch. The Samaritans phone line is in operation on a 24/7 basis and is a free and confidential service for those in need.

“It’s been a challenging few years for everyone, and we know that many people are still facing all kinds of pressure, however, we want to remind the public that they are not alone.

“It doesn’t matter how great or small the problems feel, our volunteers are here at any time of day or night, whatever they are facing,” Athlone and Midland Samaritans stated this week.

Anyone can contact Samaritans for free at any time and from any phone, even a mobile without credit, on 116 123 24 hours or you can email [email protected].
