Captain’s Prize will take pride of place at Athlone Golf Club this June weekend

This weekend marks the highlight of Captain Thomas O’Connor’s golfing year when he hosts his Captain’s weekend at Athlone Golf Club.

Thomas is wished a very successful weekend and hope that the weather is good and that the sun shines down on all the competing members who will be striving to win the highest award in the men’s golfing calendar.

The weekend begins on Friday with a four person scramble over 12 holes, any combination, with the timesheet available from 2pm to 6.30pm with the presentation of prizes taking place after the last card is returned.

This will be followed by the first draw of the Golf Club Lotto with a Jackpot of €2,000 and a Match 3 draw for €200.The timesheet for all days is available on the BRS booking system.

Prizegiving

There was a very good attendance at the presentation of prizes of outstanding competitions last Saturday evening in the clubhouse and of the Open Week Prize night. Thank you to all the prizewinners who attended to accept their prizes. It is so important to attend or send apologies out of respect to the numerous ponsors who generously give their time and money to support Athlone Golf Club. Please support all club sponsors when you have the opportunity.

Lotto Draw on June 17

Athlone Golf Club’s first Lotto draw will be held in the clubhouse this Friday at 9pm in the following the Men’s Captain Scramble. If you haven’t already done so, please sign up to the Lotto as all proceeds will be used on course and clubhouse developments. The Club needs every member’s support.

Upcoming Competitions

The ladies competition on Tuesday, June 21, will be sponsored by Savoury Fare, while the weekend of June 25/26 sees the club hosting the Connacht Mid-Amateur Championship. This is a 36 holes qualifying competition with the top 30 players qualifying for a playoff on Sunday. The top 30 will playoff from 8am- 10am.

Inter Club Competitions

Congratulations to the club’s All Ireland fourball team who defeated Tuam to reach the semi final of the Connacht section of this national competition, the final of which will be held at Athlone Golf Club in September. Congratulations is also afforded to the Jimmy Bruen team who had a comprehensive victory over Dunmore Demesne and the Pierce Purcell team who were also successful in their match.

Ladies Inter Club Competitions

Congratulations to the ladies Intermediate team who won their their match 3/2 against Ballinasloe last Sunday and commiserations to the the Minor Cup team who were defeated by Loughrea.
