Public consultation opens on a new Heritage and Biodiversity Plan for County Westmeath

A new Heritage and Biodiversity Plan is being prepared for Westmeath, the Plan being the Local Authority’s statement of intent in relation to the Heritage and Biodiversity of Westmeath and will set out key areas of focus for the next five years.

Initial consultation on the Plan has commenced and submissions are invited until July 8, the public encouraged to have their say on what they think the issues are concerning Westmeath’s heritage and biodiversity.

Public information sessions on the preparation of the Heritage and Biodiversity Plan are scheduled to take place in Moate Library on Thursday, June 2, from 6:30pm–7:30pm, and in Athlone Library on Tuesday, June 21, from 6.30pm-7.30pm.

Zoom meetings are also planned on Wednesday, June 15, from 7pm-8pm and on Monday, June 20, from 7-8pm. Those wishing to attend one of the online meetings are asked to email [email protected] for the link.

Following this initial phase of public consultation, a Draft Heritage and Biodiversity Plan will be prepared for Westmeath. The Draft Plan will then go out for consultation.
