Praise for emergency services as army bomb disposal squad nullify suspect devices at DPD hub

DPD Ireland CEO, Des Travers, has lauded the prompt action of the emergency services following a suspected security incident at the company’s hub facility in Athlone this week.

On Monday night the army bomb disposal team were called to an incident at the company base in Athlone Business Park after a number of suspect devices were identified on site at the depot. The devices were removed from the scene and later deemed not viable.

Speaking following the incident, the company CEO, commended the swift response of the emergency services for “averting what could have been a major disaster”.

“The safety of our staff is of the utmost importance to us. The response of the emergency services was tremendous and I would particularly like to compliment them for averting what could have been a disaster.

“DPD Ireland has a contingency plan in place for such an emergency and the various elements of this plan were successfully implemented when the incident occured,” Mr Travers stated.
