Athlone Golf Club, Athlone Gymnastics Club, Hodson Bay Celtic and South Roscommon Cycling Club have been allocated funding under the latest Sports Capital Programme equipment grants programme.
Welcoming the news, local Independent Deputy, Denis Naughten, stated that the funding will assist clubs in supporting local athletes and young people.
“This allocation of funding is the first phase under the Sports Capital Grant Programme with work being advanced on the assessment of capital funding applications to be announced later in the year.
“With sports clubs making a massive commitment from their own resources, this investment by Government will assist clubs in supporting local athletes and young people.
“Having worked closely with some of the successful applications, I have no doubt that they will have a huge benefit in their local communities. And I expect that further allocation of funding for other local clubs will be announced in the coming months,” Deputy Naughten asserted.
