Buccaneer Boyle makes debut for Ireland as Carty earns second cap

Dynamic young backrower Paul Boyle made his Ireland debut against USA at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday.

The former Ireland U20s captain was introduced from the bench along with fellow Buccaneers players David Heffernan and Finlay Bealham, who scored his second try for Ireland, in the second half. Ireland coasted to a facile 71-10 victory.

Luke Carty earned his second cap for the visitors following his impressive debut against England. It was a difficult evening for the recent Pirate as the Eagles could not reproduce their second half form shown against England and they paid dearly for spurning a number of straight-forward penalty kicks early in the match when they were on top.

After a mistake ridden opening quarter, Ireland then got down to business with many debutants doing well and the team displaying some wonderful handling on occasion.

Another Award For Henshaw

Robbie Henshaw has been named the Leinster Players Player of the Year, a richly deserved honour for the in-form centre. Here’s wishing that his hamstring injury will clear up swiftly and he will be ready to go against the Springboks.

The Lions tour is becoming more challenging by the day but, hopefully, the tests will all go ahead. Remember that a Lions camera crew will be in attendance at Dubarry Park and The Bounty for the first test on July 24.
