Henshaw displays scoring prowess as Lions enjoy warm-up fixture victory

ROBBIE HENSHAW scored a smashing try for the British & Irish Lions as they defeated Japan 28-10 at Murrayfield on Saturday in what was an entertaining warm-up game ahead of the Test series against the Springboks.

Henshaw impressed in what was a costly victory as first half injuries to lock Alun Wyn Jones and flanker Justin Tipuric rule the Wales duo out of the tour.

An abductor injury sustained in Ireland training camp ruled out James Ryan being called up to replace the Lions captain, but Conor Murray now takes over as skipper for the trip to take on the World champions. Here’s wishing the Lions a safe and successful safari to South Africa.

Rumour has it that the Sky Sports cameras may be visiting Dubarry Park and The Bounty on one of the Lions test match days. Watch out for further news soon!

Ireland U20s win again

Ireland U20s maintained their winning streak with a comprehensive 40-12 Six Nations Championship victory over Wales at Cardiff Arms Park on Friday.

Coach Richie Murphy made a handful of changes for this encounter against the host nation but Buccaneers duo, Shane Jennings and Oisin McCormack both retained their starting berths.

Their influence on the proceedings justified that faith although Jennings incurred a trip to the sin bin but McCormack truly is a ‘hardy Bucc’ with another feisty performance. Ireland top the table ahead of England on scoring difference and their clash tonight (kick off 8pm ) is not to be missed.

Meanwhile, Ireland take on Japan at senior level on Saturday. This should prove an enjoyable joust as Japan play a lively and enterprising brand of rugby while this fixture will be an opportunity for some of Ireland’s upcoming players to stake their claims for the future.

Hopefully, a Buccaneer or two will be among them. Kick off at the Aviva Stadium is 1 p.m. USA Eagles are visitors there the following weekend.
