Are you involved in the food sector in or around Athlone?

If so, make sure you are part of this exciting new initiative, led by Athlone Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with Destination Athlone, funded by Westmeath County Council to promote local food.

The first step will be compiling a comprehensive directory of all businesses involved in the food industry. This includes producers and restaurants, cafés, gastro-pubs, food experiences/tours, hotels, breweries and distilleries.

Local and quality produced food are becoming increasingly important both to visitors and to natives to the town and Athlone has a strong and proud food story which is not very well known outside the region.

“This is a really exciting opportunity for everyone involved in food in Athlone. We want to put Athlone firmly in the centre of Ireland’s food map.

“We are encouraging everyone to register and get involved. We hope to build this initiative over time as a strong support to our food sector and the more businesses who are involved, the better,” Gerry McInerney, CEO, Athlone Chamber of Commerce, stated.

To take part, register for one of the online short workshops scheduled for the end of March and beginning of April. The registration form is at http://www.athlonechamber.ie/athlone-food-story-workshops.

Select the workshop that’s most appropriate for your particular business, choose from Producers and Markets, Cafés, Restaurants and Gastro Pubs, Tours and Experiences or Hotels.

If your business fits under two categories, you can register for both workshops. There is no cost for either taking part in the workshops or being part of the directory. Workshops will take place online via Zoom.

This series of workshops is a starting point for information gathering and discussing Athlone’s food story.

Make sure that you and your business don’t miss out. Register now on http://www.athlonechamber.ie/athlone-food-story-workshops.
