Athlone Chamber welcomes reopening of local retail businesses

Athlone Chamber has welcomed the Government’s announcement regarding the reopening of many retail businesses this week.

The level 3 restrictions will enable many shops that have been closed for weeks to reopen their doors to the general public. While this will bring increased risk with regard to Covid-19, the ongoing adherence to the wearing of face masks and social distancing will greatly help in managing the spread going forward.

“We are relieved and very pleased that many of our members will now have the opportunity to open their doors as they approach the busiest four to five weeks of the year for their businesses.

“Level 5 restrictions have been extremely difficult for all of us over the past six weeks and not least the many retail shops, restaurants and hotels who were forced to close doors in October.

“It is now imperative that we support our local traders, restaurants and hotels by using their services or buying their goods over the coming weeks and into the new year. This will provide some respite for these embattled traders who have had to sacrifice so much for all our sakes.

“We hope that everyone enjoys walking the streets of Athlone once again. Our Christmas lights which were switched on on Tuesday night will help bring a sparkle to the festive season.

“We at Athlone Chamber wish to thank the Athlone Festival and Events Project Group and Westmeath County Council for all their work in bringing festive cheer to the streets of Athlone,” Alan Shaw, President, Athlone Chamber of Commerce, remarked.
