Athlone Town Mayor welcomes investment in Connaught Gardens

Enhancement works which were proposed for Connaught Gardens residential estate on the west side of Athlone have now reached their conclusion, Town Mayor, Cllr Aengus O’Rourke, confirmed this week.

“I am delighted to see the results of the two year programme of works coming to a conclusion with great results in Connaught Gardens.

“In 2019, I proposed that we carry out a number of improvements in Connaught Gardens. Following on from that, the Council agreed to resurface and reline the road, construct new footpaths and carry out repairs to the monument on the green area between the houses and the Priory Church.

“I accepted that this would take two years to fund and implement. Just under two years later this work is now almost complete. I would like to thank the residents in Connaught Gardens, in particular Tony Maguire and Derek Moran, who have been very co-operative and who are in the process of setting up a new residents association in order to build on the good work carried out by the Council in recent years,” Cllr O’Rourke asserted.
