Castledaly Community Centre selected as broadband connection location

Castledaly Community centre has been chosen as a site for the Government’s Broadband Connection Scheme under the National Broadband Plan Fine Gael Councillor, John Dolan, has confirmed.

“Some time ago I was approached by Westmeath County Council’s Broadband officer, Gerry McCormack, with regard to putting a community broadband connection in the local community centre in Castledaly and when I brought the proposal to the committee they felt that it would be a great addition to the area.

“The initial surveys have been completed and the project is ready to commence. After some confusion regarding the type of broadband being installed, Gerry McCormack and an official from the Department met with some local people to explain the service which would be provided.

“It was explained that a 3G service would be provided at no cost to the community until fibre is provided in the area. However, the committee believed that the local community should be asked whether they wished to have this service provided or not so the committee has decided that locals will now have a vote on the matter.

“This vote will be completed by secret ballot and will take place this Saturday at Castledaly community centre from 11am until 12pm. The votes will be counted by an independent person and is limited to people from the area only,” Cllr. Dolan asserted.
