Ballinasloe Town Band recitals raised spirits within the local community during the summer season

Central to the delivery of the musical cultural arts for decades in Ballinasloe, the Ballinasloe Town Band, conducted weekly outdoor recitals within the town centre on Saturday afternoons throughout the summer season.

As the town and country slowly progressed from a period of lockdown at a time of enhanced social distancing measures and Covid-19 caution, the musical interlude was instrumental in lightening the gloom and raising the spirits of the town.

Residents of the local and surrounding nursing home facilities were also delighted with the arrival of the band to their premises with weekly performances at Garbally View, St Brendan’s CNU, Mill Race, Ballinderry, Aughrim, Ahascragh, Kiltormer and Killimor ensuring the band were a positive presence within the respective communities.

‘When Irish Eyes are Smiling’ and ‘What a Wonderful World’ set the theme and the tone of the recitals with the band delivering a mixed programme of foot tapping, handclapping, sing along favourites.

Ballinasloe Youth Band

The Ballinasloe Youth band is now recruiting after a very successful initial two years. Children from second class onwards can enrol in the band. They will have the opportunity to learn instruments including flute, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, drums and everything in between.

Tutors have years of experience as performers and teachers and the children will always receive a warm and encouraging welcome. The band is currently monitoring the situation with regards to Covid-19 and will arrange start dates for the new budding musicians in the coming weeks.

However, places are always limited so if you would like more information about the Ballinasloe Youth Band, you can visit where you can register your interest.

The ‘Raise the Roof’ fundraising campaign has taken on a new urgency because of the Storm Ellen damage to the Band Hall. Shortfall in funding is dependent upon public support. Slates may be purchased from any member of the senior or junior band or from committee members.

Online purchases can be made via the revamped website, or via the Ballinasloe Town Band Facebook page. Enquiries to Martina 087 9710496.
