Regional cancer support group set to host information event

East Galway and Midlands Cancer Support are hosting a cancer awareness event entitled 'Supporting Cancer Patients - How to meet the Unmet Needs!' in the Shearwater Hotel Ballinasloe on Friday, January 31, from 12-2pm.

During this event, the organisation will share findings of an evaluation study undertaken at the East Galway and Midlands Cancer Support centre during 2018/2019. This study was funded by Breakthrough Cancer Research and undertaken by researchers in University College, Cork under the direction of Dr. Frances Drummond.

This is the first such study undertaken in Ireland to the organisation's knowledge.

The format of the event will include a number of 101-5 minute presentations, followed by a panel discussionand Q & A session. The aim is to inform patients, their families and friends, of the supports available to them at all stages of their cancer experience.

Those speakers listed to attend include physiotherapist, Lisa O'Looney (exercise ), nutritionist, Honor Geraghty (nutrition ), Dr. Helen Greally (psycho-oncology ), Catriona Duggan (oncology nurse specialist ), Edel Chadwick (patient's perspective ), Dr. Mary Rogan (importance of support ) and Dr. Frances Drummond (breakthrough research study ).
