Athlone IT raises funds for New Horizon initiative

Athlone Institute of Technology Students’ Union, together with the support of students, raised an amazing €4,000 for the New horizon charity which works closely with the two local direct provision centres in Athlone.

The Union facilitated a festival day which carried on through to the evening with events in the Union’s affiliated pub and nightclub, Charlies and Karma Athlone.

Athlone Institute of Technology has been a college of sanctuary since 2017 as a result of the initiatives which they continue to house with regard to integration and offering scholarships to students living in direct provision.

The aim of this particular event was to raise and heighten awareness pertaining to the direct provision system operated in Ireland with the objective of the event to initiate an inclusive environment for the college’s students who reside in such circumstances, as well as raising vital funds for New Horizon on the day.

Athlone Institute of Technology Students Union extends immense gratitude for the vast support received, especially to all students in the DJ and Animation Society, along with Karma Athlone for their very generous contribution.
