Speaking with regard to the tragic incident, Professor Ciarán Ó Catháin, President, Athlone IT, expressed his heartfelt sympathies to Jordan’s family and friends.

“It is with great sadness that we have learned of the news of the untimely passing of one of our students. Jordan Murphy was a wonderful, dedicated and personable student who was very much loved and respected by his fellow classmates, our academic faculty and the wider AIT community, all of whom are devastated by his loss.

“We would like to extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends and loved ones. Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this very difficult time. Yesterday’s news shocked and saddened all at the institute and especially his classmates who held him in great regard.

“As an institute, we pride ourselves on being a close-knit community and it is at times like these where we most benefit from this supportive environment. To that effect, we have put in place a series of supports for his classmates over the coming days to support them during this very difficult time. He was a much loved and integral part of our community and will be sorely missed. Once again our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this very difficult time.”
