Public meeting on climate change

Socialist Party to ask: 'Is there a solution to the environmental crisis on the basis of Capitalism?'

A public meeting on the pressing issue of climate change will take place this evening at 7.30pm in Aras na nGael, Dominick Street.

The meeting, organised by the Galway branch of the Socialist Party, will ask the question, 'Is there a solution to the environmental crisis on the basis of Capitalism?' and examine possible solutions.

According to Conor Burke of The Socialist Party and Solidarity: “With just 100 companies responsible for over 70 per cent of all carbon emissions in the past 30 years, is it really feasible to think this problem can be solved by making a few individual lifestyle changes and Government carbon taxes? Anyone who thinks we can solve climate change without challenging the market system and holding governments and big businesses to account is failing to understand the problem."
