New exhibition opening in Custom House Studios
The Custom House Studios in Westport are pleased to present The Vanishing Present, a new exhibition by Sarah Stevens which will be officially opened next Thursday, January 16 and will run until Sunday, January 9. The Vanishing Present is an art project that documents abandoned spaces and their possessions. Artist Sarah Stevens uses photography, sculpture, and drawing to record homes, schools, hotels, train stations, factories, and other empty spaces. These beautiful, decaying museums lie forgotten in every community in Ireland. Some are a consequence of the financial collapse, but many more have been around for longer.
From IKEA to the past — Folk Fiction exhibition comes to the city museum
The touring exhibition Folk Fiction - Translations in Material Cultures, by Galway visual artist Gareth Kennedy has come to Galway City Museum after previously being exhibited at the National Museum of Ireland – Country Life, Kerry County Museum and the National Craft Gallery.
Mayo County Council Tyrone Guthrie Regional Bursary Scheme
Every year Mayo County Council offers two bursary awards to artists born or living in Mayo, to enable them to spend two weeks at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre at Annaghmakerrig, County Monaghan. Each bursary covers the costs for a two-week period, plus the use of a studio if relevant. There is a variety of artist work spaces available including studios, a music room for composers and musicians, a multi-media room, and a large rehearsal and performance space. This year the successful applicants are visual artist Joanna Hopkins and poet Michelle O’Sullivan.

Folk Fiction - Translations in Material Cultures is a multimedia exhibition by visual artist Gareth Kennedy which is currently running in the National Museum of Ireland – Country Life, Turlough Park, Castlebar, Co Mayo. The exhibition features film, photographs, and objects created over the past two years with the residents of Inís Oírr, on the Aran Islands, and Gneeveguilla, Co Kerry.

Emma is a visual artist working mainly in the medium of glass. Her artistic practice is inspired by the natural environment in the west of Ireland, and the wild flowers and plants that populate the countryside. Captivated by these enchanting plants, Emma creates collections of these wild flowers out of glass, eternally capturing their beauty.
