Valuable opportunity for business start-ups in the west

Positive news stories are a scarce commodity these days but the GMIT Innovation in Business Centres (IiBC) in Castlebar and Galway have an opportunity for aspiring entrepreneurs to start their own business. The new Midlands and West Enterprise Programme (MWEP) can help, and an open evening will be held on Wednesday March 23 at 6.30pm and 7.30pm.

Ireland's leading programme for business start-ups is currently recruiting participants for their second programme. The closing date for applications is January 26. Eighty participants will be asked to commit three hours on one evening a week over the next two months in Dublin or Kerry. This phase of the programme is open to founders with business ideas and co-founders with expertise in a range of disciplines that will complement the business.

Technology firms still going strong in Galway

The announcement last week that Galway is to gain 90 new IT related jobs in two separate announcements by Hewlett Packard and Buy.com is a timely reminder that, despite all the doom and gloom, Galway and the western region still has a strong and thriving technology industry.
