Mayo cancer patients seek counselling within one year of diagnosis

The Irish Cancer Society has published a report on its National Counselling Grants Programme which reveals that 45 per cent of Mayo cancer patients who availed of the service in Mayo Cancer Support Association sought counselling less than one year after a cancer diagnosis. Another 24 per cent of clients required counselling within two years of diagnosis, highlighting the need for emotional support following the completion of treatment.

Cancer survivors from Mayo attend Irish Cancer Society conference

Record numbers of cancer survivors attended the recent Irish Cancer Society National Conference for Cancer Survivorship. To mark its 50th Anniversary, the Irish Cancer Society held a milestone conference entitled Living Well with Cancer, bringing together over 800 cancer survivors for the first time. Cancer Survivors from Mayo attended the conference alongside representatives from Mayo Cancer Support Association. The two-day event which took place in the Aviva Stadium in Dublin, was the largest event of its kind by the society, and was kindly supported by Roche.

A weekend of ups and downs and big performances

I thought it impossible to see anything more bizarre than having to overtake an NYPD car on my way to MacHale Park last Sunday but just before the start of the Ballintubber/Knockmore county quarter final something else surpassed that. While I was watching the Ballintubber warm up to see if I could spot Cillian O’Connor ( to see if he was togged) I noticed a commotion in the middle of the field with all medical personnel running towards the place where Knockmore just had their team picture taken.
