As part of the this year’s Great Electric Drive, Research leader of the Unit for Social Software at Insight, (formerly DERI) John Breslin has received his BMWi3 electric car to begin his four month ecar trial. He is one of just 32 new ecar ambassadors chosen earlier this year, from 20,000 applicants across Ireland.

Mayo woman Jana McGrath was selected from some 20,000 applicants to become one of 32 new ecar ambassadors who will take part in the Great Electric Drive. This is the second year of the Great Electric Drive, which gives 26 members of the public and six commercial organisations the opportunity to trial an electric car for up to four months each. The ambassadors were selected from more than 20,000 applicants from all over Ireland. The ambassadors were announced at an event held in Dublin this week, which was attended by the Minister for Communications, Energy & Natural Resources, Pat Rabbitte.

GMIT to hold two open days on CAO options for secondary school students and parents

A large number of secondary school students from Mayo and around the rest of the country will visit GMIT’s Galway city campuses next week for two Open Days, on Friday, October 18 (9.30am to 3pm) and Saturday, October 19 (10am to 1pm). A full programme of activities and events will take place in the two city campuses, at the Dublin Road campus and the nearby Centre for Creative Arts & Media (formerly called Cluain Mhuire). Events include talks on the range of degree programmes on campus (and live online on www.gmit.ie on 18 October), workshops, demonstrations, exhibitions of student work, a video showcase of graduates’ career paths, campus tours and a range of fun interactive learning activities.
