Local Fianna Fáil Deputy, Robert Troy, has welcomed details of additional supports that will provided for early years services in disadvantaged areas under Budget 2024, but has stressed that huge challenges still remain for parents, staff and providers.

A new initiative has been launched to create smoke-free environments for children and young people in Galway City and County. The Not Around Us initiative helps to denormalise smoking for the next generation and is another step towards a Tobacco Free Galway. It also aims to create an environment where it is easier for those who smoke to quit, and stay quit. Healthy Galway City and Galway Children and Young People’s Services Committee (CYPSC) are leading the Not Around Us initiative for Galway.

Mayo County Childcare Committee and the Mayo Early Intervention Service held a very successful seminar in Knockranny house hotel Westport last month. The seminar was entitled 'Early Years Inclusion Day' - Practical ways to include all children'. Dr. Geraldine French , the noted specialist in early childhood education gave an inspiring key note address to begin the day. Over 120 early childhood care and education practitioners then attended three workshops for the rest of the morning.
