Architecture at the Edge, a new festival designed to help citizens understand the many ways architecture impacts our lives, has launched its inaugural programme. The festival, which runs from September 29 to October 1 throughout County Galway and into County Mayo includes expert-led guided tours, talks, workshops and exhibitions and will offer audiences a unique opportunity to explore homes, buildings and spaces that are not usually open to the public.

Kiltartan church celebrates its 175th anniversary

St Attracta’s Church, Kiltartan was the scene of a joyful outpouring of faith last week as the parish celebrated the 175th anniversary of the opening of the church. The clergy, led by four Mass servers, walked in procession from the old church while the large outdoor bell was rung by Tommy Nolan. The faith journey of the parish was recalled by the chief celebrant, a native of the parish, Canon Martin Downey.

The O’Malley Clan is a worldwide association of people bearing the O’Malley name. Its aim is to foster connections between people of O’Malley heritage and promote an awareness of the history of this Gaelic Clan and later this month they are holding their 63rd annual rally family day in the grounds of Claregalway Castle while a host of other events take place across the city and county.
