Following the sad demise of the Welcome Inn Hotel, Mayo Male Voice Choir committee members have chosen Breaffy House Hotel as the venue for this year's spring concert.

Shock in Castlebar as Welcome Inn shuts its doors

There was shock in Castlebar yesterday morning with the news that the Welcome Inn Hotel on New Antrim Street in the town had shut its doors and entered a voluntary liquidation process. The popular hotel was run by the McHugh family since it was first opened in the 1960s. There was a sign posted on the doors outside yesterday saying: "Hotel closed until further notice. We apologise to our loyal customers for any inconvenience caused". The hotel was a popular venue for events such as weddings, dinner dances, and meetings. The venue also hosted the only remaining nightclub in the county town.

Conway-Walsh to host public meeting on Mayo’s Healthcare Crisis in Castlebar

Sinn Féin’s Dáil Spokesperson on Finance, Pearse Doherty TD, will address a public meeting organised by Mayo General Election candidate Cllr Rose Conway-Walsh that will take place in the Welcome Inn Hotel, Castlebar next Thursday, November 12 at 7.00pm. The event, entitled “Building a Public Health System that delivers for the West” will feature a talk from Dr David Hickey, a transplant surgeon who served as the Director of the National Kidney and Transplant Programme, on the topic of “building a coalition to fight for a national health system in Ireland”. Cllr Conway-Walsh will speak about the realities for the people of Mayo of the healthcare crisis such as MRI Waiting lists, delays in processing medical cards and broken promises on Rheumatology Services in the county while Pearse Doherty TD will outline Sinn Féin’s alternative for our national healthcare system.

Community input sought for Local Development Strategy

Planning is now underway for the LEADER element of the Rural Development Programme (RDP) 2014-2020. It is expected that by January 2016, the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government will decide on who will deliver the new LEADER programme in Mayo.
