There was praise from all political quarters this week for the work carried out by all those involved in the recent Titanic commemorations in Lahardane. Fianna Fáil councillor Blackie Gavin told the meeting: “The memorial park is a fantastic achievement by all involved and is something that everybody will have to see.”

Welcome for bilingual Titanic Commemorative plaque

Sinn Féin councillor Thérèse Ruane, has welcomed the decision at last week’s town council meeting to erect the Titanic commemorative plaque for the Addergoole Fourteen at Castlebar Railway Station in English and Irish, reversing a previous decision to erect the sign in English only.

Titanic lecture in Clifden

As part of its bicentenary town celebrations during 2012, Clifden in Connemara is hosting Philip Littlejohn, who will give a Titanic lecture to commemorate the town’s historic link to the Titanic via Jack Phillips (Titanic's senior radio operator) who worked at the Marconi Transatlantic Radio Station (1909 -12), which was located three miles south of Clifden.
