Society of St Vincent de Paul Annual Appeal

Next week, the Castlebar conference of the Society of St Vincent de Paul (SVP) will be posting blue envelopes to houses in the Castlebar area as part of the SVP Annual Appeal. Demand for help increased by more than 20 per cent throughout the year, and with their annual church gate collection cancelled for a second year due to the pandemic, local SVP volunteers are asking for the support of the community to continue their work of assisting people in need.

“St. Vincent de Paul has had an enormous impact on my life. The effect SVP has had on my ability to go to University cannot be overstated. Without the help of SVP over the last few years, I would not have been able to complete my education,” said a local woman this week.

Cregmore National School supports St Vincent de Paul

For the 20th consecutive year, Cregmore National School hosted a coffee morning, cake sale and monster raffle, with all proceeds donated to St. Vincent de Paul. The event, coordinated by the pupils of 6th class, under the guidance of their teachers Ms McCormack and Mr Madden, proved to be a huge success with a large number of parents, grandparents, past pupils and friends popping into the school hall to feast on some wonderful baking and enjoy the entertainment of both the school choir and the school trad group.

No fall off in calls to St Vincent de Paul despite economic recovery

A local charity which is dedicated to tackling poverty and disadvantage in Galway spends more than €1 million a year on direct assistance. And the St Vincent de Paul charity says that despite the signs of economic recovery calls for help to the organisation show no sign of decreasing.

Flood fund now at €150k

The Society of St Vincent de Paul Flood Relief Committee would like to thank all those who have generously donated to date and who are continuing to donate for the victims of the flooding in the Athlone area. The fund presently stands at €150,000.
