1. Make a shopping list (and as Santa would say check it twice!). This will not only focus your mind but will help you avoid buying items you do not need.

All about the clash

image preview

This season has so many trends going for it that I can safely say it is hard to keep up. And coming from me, that's a pretty serious matter. One trend that has completely dominated this year is the clash. No, not the British band of the 1980s — prints, colour, and textures can be mixed and matched and there are no rules. You can literally wear what you like with whatever you like. The best place to start with the clash, is prints; florals in particular.

The nine to five

We all experience the feeling first thing on a Monday morning, dragging yourself out of bed, jumping in the shower, and then opening the wardrobe doors asking the same question: What will I wear? The traditional work wear attire consisted of the standard suit, for both men and women. For women, that has changed somewhat; the suit is disappearing and in come dresses and separates, which in essence, are far more flattering and comfortable to wear all day. That is not to say that dress policies specify what we can and cannot wear to work, so make sure you familiarise yourself with this before taking on any fashion experiments at work.

Sophisticated summer fashions from Fenn Wright Manson and Kilkenny

Confidence is the best accessory anyone can have when it comes to fashion. Kilkenny, home to Ireland’s largest collection of Irish designers, as well as many top international labels, has a fantastic selection of perfectly cut, sophisticated, fashion to have you looking and feeling your best. This week’s Fashion Fix comes from renowned international label Fenn Wright Manson.

Let’s keep it casual…

Despite our internal craving for all things glam, there comes a time when we just want to keep it casual. Our style that is. But there is equilibrium where sparkly meets tracksuit and I call it “smart”. Typically at the weekends, we like to brush off the week, send the suit to the dry cleaners and don our Saturday finest, the most popular being jeans and a top. The definition of casual clothes has evolved over the last number of years as Ireland is now the home to some of the most renowned retailers, both indigenous and international. We can, without fail, style ourselves comfortably and affordably. I had the pleasure of interviewing British fashion legend, Gok Wan last week and we talked of Irish style in general and he thinks we got it sorted. So if Gok thinks we have style, how do we balance the chic with the comfy?
