Athlone Town ended their home programme of games in the First Division last Friday night when a first clean sheet secured a point against Cobh Ramblers. It ended a run of twelve straight defeats and is the first point claimed since the end of May when Longford shared the spoils at Lissywollen.

Second placed Finn Harps maintained their push for promotion to the Premier Division when they came from behind to beat Athlone away from home last Friday night. The Town took an early shock lead but Ollie Horgan’s men were back on level terms through Nathan Boyle by half time. A second score from Boyle early in the second half put Harps in front as Keith Cowan sealed victory with a late third goal.

The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) last week handed down 12 month bans to two Athlone Town players, after an investigation found them guilty of unduly influencing games with a view to gaining corrupt betting profits.
