The organisers of Ireland’s largest amateur five-day cycling event are calling on the people of Kilkenny to come out and support over 150 cyclists from all over Europe and Ireland when they pass through Kilkenny City May 10 as part of the Kellogg’s Tour of Ireland Cycle Challenge.

Armstrong and Cavendish headline a streamlined Tour of Ireland

Organisers of the Tour of Ireland professional cycle race, held in association with Fáilte Ireland, have announced a new three day format for 2009. The race, from Friday, August 21 to Sunday, August 23, will provide some spectacular racing with seven times Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong bringing his Astana team to Ireland for the first time. Six times Tour de France stage winner Mark Cavendish (Columbia – HTC) also returns to Ireland where he scored three consecutive stage wins last year.

World’s top racing cyclists come to Ireland

One hundred and twelve top cyclists from all over the globe are heading to our shores to contest the third edition of the Tour of Ireland, from August 21 to 23. This year’s race, in association with Fáilte Ireland, takes place over three gruelling days, covering 576km of challenging roads with breathtaking scenery including Thomastown, Inistioge, Mullinavat and Graiguenamanagh.
