Top class talent storms into Claremorris Duathlon

One of the best fields seen at a Connacht run/bike/run event assembled in Claremorris on Saturday December 28 for the annual Land of the Giants Duathlon. The wet stormy weather did not deter some 200 participants from taking part, for most it was a case of cabin fever and this event was the tonic to get out and about. On the day the weather gods were kind to the organisers, no wind or rain, just a nice calm overcast morning greeted the eager competitors.

• Galway’s Kevin McGlade claimed gold on the final day of competition at the Dave McCullagh Memorial Gala in Limerick at the weekend, winning the 50m freestyle final in 24.30. He then went on to win silver in the 50m breaststroke final, while another Galway swimmer, Dairne Ryan, also took silver in the women’s 50m freestyle in 27.57. Galway’s good run continued in the 100m butterfly final with David O’Sullivan (57.31) claiming gold.

Moylette claims national senior title

Ray Moylette added another feather to his cap on Saturday night in the National Stadium in Dublin. The Islandeady man who boxes for St Anne’s in Westport picked up his first national senior men’s title at the 64kg weight after a 10-3 win over Stephen Donnelly from All Saints in the final.
