Some 50 business leaders have signed up to take part in this year's COPE Galway Sleep Out, now in its 10th year.

Twenty-nine Galwegians will once again don their warmest coats and hats to sleep out on Shop Street for the homeless.

For nine years, COPE Galway has been rallying business leaders to join together in solidarity against homelessness through its biggest annual fundraising event – The COPE Galway Business Sleep Out.

On Monday afternoon, I visited Modh Eile as a guest of COPE Galway. It is the perhaps one of the last times that the media will see inside it fully, because from next month it will become the temporary and private home of many families who experience domestic violence in Galway every year and who require a place to flee to, receive respite, to be cosseted. A place of great privacy and comfort.

Hundreds of swimmers and thousands of supporters thronged the steps of Blackrock in Salthill to support the 30th annual Christmas Day Swim in aid of COPE Galway’s services for people experiencing homelessness, domestic abuse; and for the provision services for older people in Galway.
