The RNLI held its annual presentation of awards at the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin last Saturday where the charity presented 55 awards to volunteers, groups, and businesses from across the country that have made a significant contribution to the RNLI in Ireland.

Lough Ree RNLI lifeboat crew received their first callout of 2015 last Saturday, April18 after a 37 foot hire cruiser ran aground on Wood Shoal, near Lecarrow.

Lough Ree RNLI was the busiest lifeboat station in Ireland last year. According to figures released by the lifeboat charity the crew at Lough Ree launched 69 times in 2014 bringing some 142 people to safety.

On Saturday evening (July 12) a shout went out at 6.57pm for two craft aground on the east shore of Inch McDermott. The RNLI Lifeboat was launched at 7.06pm. At the scene it was found that a 30ft cruiser had had engine problems and drifted ashore. A passing 80ft barge went to give assistance and went aground herself.
