THIS SATURDAY afternoon, at the Heineken Big Top in the Fisheries Field, the RTÉ Concert Orchestra extend An Invitation To The Dance for this year’s Proms Concert, jointly presented by the Galway International Arts Festival and the Róisín Dubh.

Galway is the place to be for young and old alike as this year’s Galway International Arts Festival prepares for its busiest weekend yet with so much to enjoy until Sunday July 29.

Over 14 days, the city can look forward to more than 200 events, across 32 venues, and involving more than 600 artists and performers, in what is to date, the largest Galway International Arts Festival ever staged.

THIS YEAR'S line-up at the Heineken Big Top is the biggest in the festival’s 41-year history, with 10 acts taking to the stage over 14 days - one of which is the RTÉ Concert Orchestra for the Festival Proms concert on Saturday July 28.

A PSYCHEDELIC journey for the ears with The Flaming Lips, and for the eyes and feet with the Miracoco Luminarium installation; getting up close and personal and with the moon (even its dark side); to harrowing stories from victims of the Syrian civil war to a survivor of the Holocaust - this is the Galway International Arts Festival 2018.

JENNY GREENE and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, which was the fastest selling music gig in Galway International Arts Festival’s 40-year history, have announced they will return to the 2018 festival.

A sell-out audience of over 3,000 people from all over Ireland, the UK and further afield attended an epic performance of Handel’s Messiah on Saturday last at the Knock Basilica. In attendance were both His Excellency Archbishop Jude Thaddeus Okolo, Papal Nuncio and the Most Rev Michael Neary DD, Archbishop of Tuam.

The trumpet shall sound on November 18 in Knock with the Basilica’s inaugural performance of Handel’s Messiah, the world’s most famous and beloved oratorio, renowned for stunning choruses and arias. Following last year’s sell-out performance of the Concert for Peace, attended by the President of Ireland Michael D Higgins and Sabina Higgins, Knock Basilica has announced the return of the RTÉ Concert Orchestra to present Handel’s Messiah.

Only four days remain of the 40th Galway International Arts Festival, but the highlights for this closing lap include the world premiere of a major opera, the first in the event's history.
